16 MONTHS: A RECAP

Friday, April 10, 2015

Now that Penelope is 17 months it's a lot more common to say around the house "We have a full blown bonafide kid" Like not a baby, but a crazy, wild, rambunctious and silly kid. This past month was hard for me because the baby is slipping away and going into toddlerdom.

At 16 months she was a daredevil and fearless. She'll go down the highest slides and try and climb up things five year olds are climbing. Her vocabulary has doubled, she looks like a three year old and eats like my husband. (To give you an idea he is a fitness freak and 280 lbs). She hates her hair being up and rips her band out, leaving only what I can describe as a "90's troll doll" lookalike hairdo.

She says hi to every single person we cross paths with anywhere we go. Usually at least five times over and over again. We've started having to sneak food in our mouths without her seeing us because she run's over and says please every second until she gets some. She has bruises all over her legs...evidence of her countless expeditions and her inevitable tomboy stage to come.

She is incredibly social for her age. I mean she will run up to the big kids, bend over and under their face and say hi. Not really like a greeting, more like a "just so you know I'll be playing with you sorta deal". Usually unfortunately kids haven't been so nice, some even pushing her or pulling her hair. Already she stands up for herself because of this. Let's just say two, much older boys tried to gang up on her, shove her and steal her grocery cart and they didn't try again. (Insert proud parent emoji)

Not to be confused though, she is not violent at all. She is incredibly kind and a pro at sharing her things. She loves all of her stuffed animals and has been carting them around the house in her stroller.     When I ask her if she's fed her baby today, she looks genuinely concerned and runs to go get her baby and it's bottle. Fierce, intelligent and kind. That's my baby girl.
